A pair of out-of-county criminals were granted their wish last week – arrested while attempting to smuggle contraband into the Washington State Prison in Davisboro, the two will now find themselves behind the walls they sought to cross.

According to Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran, a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office allegedly spotted a drone flying over the prison while on-patrol late last Friday.

Seeking the operator of the unmanned aircraft, the deputy followed the overhead drone as it returned to the point of origin.

Led to West Brown Drive in Davisboro, the Sheriff’s Office deputy encountered a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the roadway with its lights on.

The law enforcement officer then approached the car. An ensuing investigation would result in the arrest of two men – 29-year-old Traquarious Hester and 24-year-old Travis Simmons of Macon.

The out-of-county pair have been charged with felony counts for the use of an unmanned aircraft to accomplish violations, possession of drug related objects, possession of items prohibited by inmates, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of promethazine hydrochloride.

With these latest apprehensions, it brings the total number of reported contraband-related arrests outside of the Washington State Prison to 73 over a little more than 2 year span.
