Washington County has seen a significant increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases throughout the month of July.
Since July 1, the Georgia Department of Public Health has reported 100 new confirmed cases for Washington County.
With the increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases, several local businesses have taken precautions by limiting foot traffic in their establishments.
Fox’s Pizza Den of Sandersville announced on Wednesday, July 8 that they are only offering take-out due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in Washington County.
On Tuesday, July 14, Sandersville Drug Company announced their pharmacy is closed to foot traffic. The public is encouraged to use the drive-thru and delivery service. If you are experiencing symptoms, or have tested positive for COVID-19, Sandersville Drug Company asks that you send a friend or family member to pick-up a prescription or use the delivery service.
“We have taken this step in order to protect our customers and staff from potential exposure,” reads a social media post from Sandersville Drug Company.
Franklin Propane Gas announced on Wednesday, July 15 that their offices are now closed to foot traffic. They ask the public to contact them by phone or online. Payments and requests for delivery or service may be made online, by phone, or by mail. If you must visit their office, please remain in your vehicle and contact them by phone at 478-552-6667.
“We realize it may be inconvenient, but that is the only way to ensure that we and many other businesses can resume normal operations soon,” reads a social media post from Franklin Propane Gas.
Wal-Mart announced on Wednesday, July 15 that they will require all shoppers to wear a face covering starting Monday, July 20. According to a news release from Wal-Mart, signage will be placed at the front of their stores concerning the new face covering requirement. In addition, Walmart has created the role of Health Ambassador and will station them near the entrance to remind those without a mask of Wal-Mart’s new requirements. The ambassadors will receive special training to help make the process as smooth as possible for customers. The ambassadors, identifiable by their black polo shirts, will work with customers who show up at a store without a face covering to try and find a solution.
Arabella’s Salon & Spa is working by appointment only; they offer curbside product/order pick-up. Masks are required for entry into their salon/spa.
Country Financial announced on Wednesday, July 15 that they will temporarily “shelter in place.” Anyone needing to make a payment can use the drop box and notify the staff.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” said Gail Wiley of Country Financial.
The Washington County Tax Commissioners’ Office is limiting access to their office for the protection of staff and the public until further notice. The office will be open by appointment only. For transactions that require assistance, call 478-552-2144 to schedule an appointment. Only two customers will be allowed in the building at a time. Masks will be required.
The Washington County Chamber of Commerce is also closing their lobby for the immediate future. Individuals needing to conduct business may contact the Chamber at 478-552-3288. The Chamber of Commerce will also offer curbside assistance at this time.
