Area schools have announced plans for the upcoming school year.
Brentwood students will begin in-person instruction on Friday, August 7. Brentwood is providing parents with information about back-to-school through email. The school supplies list, school calendar, dress code information, and the COVID-19 illness policy are listed on the school’s website at brentwoodschool.org.
Open House for Brentwood is scheduled for Thursday, August 6. Families will be divided in alphabetical order by last name and given a time frame to attend the Open House. During the designated time on campus, parents and students may visit the student’s classroom to meet the teacher and drop off school supplies. Parents and students are asked not to congregate in the classrooms, hallways, or on campus in order to allow time and space for all families to attend the event.

* Families A-C from 5:00 P.M. – 5:30 P.M.
* Families D-H from 5:30 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.

The Washington County Board of Education is offering three learning options for the 2020 – 2021 school year: traditional, hybrid, and blended remote.
With the traditional model, students will attend school Monday – Friday and participate in the traditional classroom model. Classes are set to begin on Friday, August 7.
The hybrid option sees students attending school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Students will participate in distance learning on the days they are not on site. Classes for the hybrid option are scheduled to start on Tuesday, August 11.
The third option is the blended remote where students complete schoolwork using the virtual/distance learning method 100 percent of the time. Parents choose between learning packets or online instruction via a web-based platform such as Zoom or Google Classroom. Orientation for the blended remote is scheduled for Monday, August 10 – Friday, August 14. Curriculum for the blended remote learning option will begin on Monday, August 17. Parent orientations for the blended remote option will take place on Thursday, July 30 at 3:30 P.M. and at 5:30 P.M. Parents/guardians that select this option will be contacted by the School System with Zoom information concerning the orientation.
As previously reported by WACO 100, Washington County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rickey Edmond and the Board of Education state that students may participate in available extracurricular activities regardless of their learning option choice. Parents and guardians will be responsible for providing transportation to and from practice.
Neighboring Johnson County announced on Wednesday, July 23 that due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the area, the Johnson County Board of Education opted to revise the 2020 – 2021 school calendar. The first day of school for students is now scheduled for Tuesday, September 8. Johnson County School Superintendent Eddie Morris explained that the decision was made to help protect students and staff.
“Our School Board has worked very hard to ensure that our schools are safe,” said Superintendent Morris.
