Tennille Mayor and Council heard a Washington County Chamber of Commerce update from Chamber President Katie Moncus during the Monday, December 7 City Council meeting.

President Moncus began by saying that the Chamber of Commerce currently has 263 members. 14 new members were added throughout the year.

When discussing the reach of the Chamber of Commerce, Moncus explained that 2020 was a year of virtual meetings and engagements because of the pandemic.

“Around April we started conducting all of our meetings virtually – whether that was a committee meeting or a webinar – we used Zoom,” said Moncus.

Since April, the Chamber has conducted 72 Zoom meetings. Social media interactions have also increased.

“We added about 1,000 more followers on Facebook,” said Moncus.

During 2020, there were four ribbon cuttings and three business after hours events.

“Normally those numbers are higher, but this is a weird year, so they are what they are,” said Chamber President Moncus.

The Washington County Chamber of Commerce continued the Youth Leadership program this year; those meetings are held virtually. The Youth Leadership program is sponsored each year by the Chamber of Commerce along with local organizations and businesses.  The Youth Leadership team is made up of 12 students each from both local high schools.

When discussing the Chamber of Commerce’s Shop at Home gift cards, President Moncus stated that the Chamber has sold over $27,000 to date.

“I know that number will be higher with the holidays,” said Moncus.

The Chamber of Commerce also launched the new community brand; this was made possible by the University of Georgia’s Archway Partnership.

Chamber President Moncus also announced that the Classic South Regional Tourism meeting scheduled for December 15 will take place in the City of Tennille.

Chamber of Commerce President Moncus explained during the Tennille City Council’s Monday, December 7 meeting that the tourism group will meet and dine in downtown Tennille.

“We’re really excited about that,” said Chamber President Moncus.
