The Sandersville Main Street is seeking individuals to serve on its Board of Directors.

Last year, the City of Sandersville opted to proceed with joining the Georgia Main Street network.

The Georgia Main Street Program began in 1980 as one of the original pilot state coordinating programs of the National Main Street Initiative launched by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The program launched with five local communities and has grown to serve 100+ communities statewide. Georgia Main Streets represent some of the strongest central business districts in the state and in the Southeast. Since it started, the designated community programs have been instrumental in leading the state in historic preservation, small business development, expansion of the state’s employment base, leveraging private investment, increasing tourism and providing a positive road map for public-private partnerships.

According to the City of Sandersville’s Economic Development Director Andrew Simpson the Sandersville Main Street is seeking a board of directors that are passionate, connected, dedicated, and inspired individuals who work hard, dream big and want positive change for the community. This board will consist of seven members. They’re also looking for committee members to serve on either the promotions committee or the design committee.

“We always want to grow and to be better,” said Simpson. “We want to fill those empty storefronts, to bring more foot traffic, and to bring ideas.”

Simpson stressed that this Board needs to include people from all walks of life who can provide different perspectives and varying talents.

“And we’ll all be committed to one thing – revitalizing downtown Sandersville,” said Simpson.

In order to be considered for the Main Street Board of Directors, you must meet at least ONE of the following requirements:

– Resident of the City of Sandersville

– Resident of Washington County, but not the City of Sandersville

– A member of the National Main Street Center

– A Downtown Property Owner

– A Downtown Business Owner

The deadline to apply to join the Main Street Board of Director is close of business on Tuesday, January 26.
