The Sandersville Police Department was recently awarded a $20,000 safety grant from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). The grant, which will continue through September of 2021, will help finance the purchase of Mobile Data Terminals for the Sandersville Police Department Patrol Division.
“The loss of one life on our roads is one too many, and the fact almost all fatal traffic crashes can be prevented is one reason why we are awarding this grant,” Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said. “The target of zero traffic deaths in our nation is achievable, and we will continue to help develop and implement educational messages, enforcement campaigns, and other safety initiatives aimed at bringing us one step closer to our goal.”
According to Sandersville Police Chief Victor K. Cuyler, the Sandersville Police Department along with the citizens of our community working together in order to create a safe environment for all citizens and transients to our city wherein everyone can enjoy family and friends and life without fear of physical harm and damage to their property.
“One nation, one community, and mutual respect equals a safe environment,” said Sandersville Police Chief Victor K. Cuyler.
The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety administers grant funding for various programs that address 11 national traffic safety priority areas of impaired driving, police traffic services, speed control, roadway safety, occupant protection/child passenger safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety, motorcycle safety, traffic records and community traffic safety.
Focusing on these areas has historically proven to be more effective than other efforts to reduce traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
