On Thursday, May 5, almost 100 dogs were rescued during an investigation into an animal fighting operation across three Central Georgia counties.

“The investigation was led by the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Inspector General, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, said David H. Estes, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. “Seven search warrants were executed in Laurens, Johnson, and Washington Counties. A total of 96 dogs were rescued.”

For evaluation purposes, the rescued animals are currently in custody of the USDA.

Personnel from the Laurens County, Johnson County, and Washington County Sheriff’s Offices continually target animal fighting operations in the Southern District and beyond.
