Today is Election Day in Washington County

Today, Tuesday, May 24, is Election Day in the General Primary Election underway for Washington County voters.

Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Polling precincts are found at the following locations:

– Sandersville … Washington County Recreation Department at 200 Franklin Haynes Boulevard
– Tennille … Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene at 316 East South Central Avenue
– Davisboro … Davisboro Community Center at 208 South Main Street
– Deepstep … Deepstep Fire Station at 8940 Deepstep Road
– Riddleville … Old Riddleville Fire Station at 10310 Georgia Highway 231
– Oconee … Oconee Fire Station at 144 Fairbanks Street
– Harrison … Harrison City Hall at 40 North Railroad Avenue
– Warthen … Warthen Fire Station at 178 Warthen Lane

Washington County elections are for seats on the Board of Commissioners and Board of Education.

One Washington County Board of Commissioners seat sees opposition. All incumbents are seeking reelection. Candidates for Board of Commissioners seats include:

– Chairperson: Horace Daniel (Incumbent)
– District One: Doug Watkins (Incumbent)
– District Two: Edward Burten, Jr. (Incumbent), Christian Cobb, and Bobby Jackson
– District Three: James Hitchcock (Incumbent)
– District Four: Frank “Bossman” Simmons, Jr. (Incumbent)

Four Washington County Board of Education seats see opposition. No incumbents are seeking reelection. Candidates for Board of Education seats include:

– Chairperson: Robert Blocker, Jr. and Randy Mayberry (District One Incumbent)
– District One: Dr. Alan Gray and Thomas (Tadpole) Pulliam
– District Two: Kristi Jenkins, John (Zack) Webb, and Shanika Wilcher
– District Three: Leigh Jordan with no opposition
– District Four: Mary Y. Hodges, Nathan C. Hodges, and Melvin Williams

City of Sandersville District Four voters will elect a new City Councilperson through a Special Election to fill the seat made vacant through the November 2021 resignation of Jason Davis, who moved outside the City limits. The elected Councilperson will serve the remainder of  the unexpired four-year term. Qualified candidates for the Sandersville City Council District Four seat include:

– Emory “Ben” Salter
– Tammy Wilcher Stevens

The deadline to register to vote or change address for this General Primary Election was Monday, April 25. Early voting began on Monday, May 2 and concluded on Friday, May 20. Two Saturday voting opportunities took place on May 7 and May 14.
