Tuesday, November 7 is Election Day for the 2023 Municipal General Election.
Washington County constituents who did not partake in the early voting process will flock to the polls in Sandersville, Davisboro, and Harrison to vote in contested races.
In Sandersville, the positions of Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem, and City Councilperson see opposition.
For Mayor, the incumbent James A. “Jimmy” Andrews seeks re-election against Cassandra Faith Warthen Jackson.
I’eshia Harris opposes the incumbent Jeffery Thomas Smith for Mayor Pro Tem.
The races for Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem will appear on all City of Sandersville ballots.
In the four districts of Sandersville, each City Councilperson seat is contested.
The incumbent Mayme L. Dennis seeks re-election against Terrence Hall in District 1.
In District 2, Deborah Brown runs versus the incumbent Henry Watts.
For the District 3 seat, the incumbent Danny J. Brown and Crystal Denise Reeves will appear on the ballot.
Incumbent Ben Salter, who assumed the District 4 position via a Special Election last year, seeks re-election against Leonard Jordan.
As previously reported by WACO 100, Election Day voting in Sandersville will be held at the Sandersville First Church of the Nazarene at 619 South Harris Street. The previous Election Day polling precinct at the Washington County Recreation Department is currently unavailable due to ongoing renovations.
City of Davisboro voters on Election Day will also observe an alteration in polling place following an announcement from the Washington County Board of Elections and Registration on Monday.
Due to unforeseeable and non-preventable water damage at Davisboro City Hall, Tuesday voting will take place across the street in the Davisboro Fire House Kitchen at 101 South Main Street.
In Davisboro, the elections for Mayor and all four City Councilperson seats will appear on each ballot.
The incumbent Sandra Braswell faces opposition from Valerie Gail Brown and Randy McNeely for Mayor.
Thomas “T.J.” Farthing and Essie Moye join incumbents Keith Braswell, Nikki Tarver Carswell, and Larry E. Ivey on the ballot for Davisboro City Council. Citizens will vote for four of the five candidates. The four individuals with the most votes will assume/retain council seats.
The City of Harrison also observes a contested race for Mayor as the incumbent Joe Walker, Jr. seeks re-election against Vincent Grissom.
Appearing alongside the vote for Mayor on all Harrison ballots, five candidates are running for the five City Councilperson positions. Melinda Brantley is poised to join incumbents Julie D. Brantley, Mattie Bivens, Johnnie Mae Kennedy, and Albert Travet, Jr.
Election Day voting in Harrison is located in the City Hall at 40 North Railroad Avenue.
Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
