Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran recently took to social media to distribute helpful tips for drivers during deer season.
“Deer are on the road this time of year and they aren’t thinking about traffic,” said Sheriff Cochran.
He shares the following information:
🦌 If you see a deer, don’t swerve. Sensitively apply brakes, but no not leave your lane.
🦌 If you hit a deer, pull your vehicle over to a safe spot and call 9-1-1.
🦌 Do not approach a deer that hits your vehicle. Deer are wild animals that can be dangerous when injured or frightened.
🦌 Deer don’t often travel alone. Be wary that if you see one, others are most likely nearby.
🦌 Deer are more often on roadways at sunrise and sunset. Use extra caution during these times.
“Slow down, stay alert, and have a great day,” said Sheriff Joel Cochran.
