An arrest has been made of a Sandersville woman following a scam of over 200 people across 25 states.
Last week, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies took Destiny Magoon into custody on Tuesday, April 30.
The 32-year-old was charged with 12 counts of theft by deception.
“The charges stem from numerous complaints to the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division that Magoon was operating a telemarketing business which offered to create lasting mementos,” said Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran. “Customers mailed irreplaceable items of deceased loved ones to Magoon and never received the promised product or had the original items returned.”
At the time of her arrest, the Sheriff’s Office had identified over 200 victims from 25 separate states.
According to the Sheriff, the investigation is ongoing and many more crimes of theft by deception are anticipated to be revealed, some international-related.
“I urge anyone who believes that they may have been a victim of this scam to come forward and to contact our Office,” said Sheriff Cochran. “We are committed to pursuing justice for all those affected by this deceitful scheme.”
