Spring is sizzling and summer will be a scorcher, but fall will follow and soon be here – bringing with it cooler temperatures and the return of the annual Kaolin Festival and Parade, the second Saturday of October.

‘Kaolin season’ runs yearlong in the ‘Kaolin Capitol of the World,’ but a special showcase spotlights the white clay mineral in Washington County each fall.

With mere months remaining until the festival’s rousing return, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and Kaolin Festival Committee has released the 2024 theme – “We Dig the 2000’s: Kaolin Proud.”

In recent years, the festival theme has highlighted the fun of a past decade. Last year, local citizens celebrated the 1990’s. The Kaolin Parade Grand Marshall was the 1994 Washington County High School football team – the first gridiron State Champion from WACO.

In 2024, the Kaolin Festival will place a deserving spotlight on law enforcement and first responders.

“This year is all things red, white, and blue,” said Katie Moncus, President of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. “We are so thankful for those who serve our country and community, and for the Kaolin Industry that has given us so much!”

Like last year, the 2024 Kaolin Festival will be a one-day event with excitement unfolding all day in Downtown Sandersville on the Courthouse Square.

The Kaolin Parade will again run up Highway 15 from the Washington County County High School to the historic Sandersville School, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Parade, vendor, and Class Reunion Row applications are now available online HERE, at the Chamber of Commerce (603 South Harris Street), or by calling 478-552-3288.

Later this month, the Kaolin Festival Committee will announce the 2024 Parade Grand Marshall.

The Kaolin Festival will be held on Saturday, October 12.
