In what seems to have become a near weekly occurrence, another two out-of-county individuals have been arrested for foiled attempts to smuggle contraband into the Washington State Prison in Davisboro.

Last Wednesday, a deputy with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was on-patrol when he visually witnessed a drone over the prison and heard the ‘thud’ sound of a package being dropped to the ground from a high elevation.

With multiple Sheriff’s Office deputies patrolling of the area, another law enforcement officer soon-after observed a “suspicious” nearby vehicle with only one headlight perform multiple traffic violations, such as failure to maintain lane.

Upon beginning a traffic stop of the car, deputies easily noticed a large drone in the backseat of the vehicle. A strong odor of marijuana was also being emitted from the car.

With cause to further search the vehicle, a brief investigation led to the seizure of a quantity of illegal drugs and other prohibited items.

22-year-old Jasiah Guadalupe of Clayton and 19-year-old Jordyn Seay of Hampton were both arrested and charged with felony trading with inmates, felony unlawful use of an unmanned aircraft system, felony possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, felony possession of a schedule 1 drug (psychedelic mushrooms), and misdemeanor possession of marijuana (less than 1 ounce).

“The Washington County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to safeguarding our communities by intensifying our efforts to prevent contraband from entering the Washington State Prison,” said Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran. “We closely collaborate with the Georgia Department Of Correction and other law enforcement agencies to implement enhanced security measures and thorough investigations. Our goal is to ensure the safety of the inmates and staff, and we will continue to take decisive action against any attempts to compromise the integrity of our prison and community.”

Since the start of last year, over 62 arrests have been made in connection to at least 24 reported thwarted attempts to smuggle contraband in to the prison in Davisboro.
