2024 ended the way that it began – with another arrest outside of the Washington State Prison in Davisboro.
The 70th reported contraband-related apprehension near the facility in a two year span occurred in the early morning hours of last Saturday on December 28.
According to Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran, Sheriff’s Office deputies collaborated with the Georgia Department of Corrections K9 Unit to successfully intercept illicit items being illegally transported into the penitentiary.
After being alerted of a potential trespasser on prison property, officers and deputies quickly responded, tracking and capturing the suspect.
26-year-old Jerry Norman III of Fairburn was arrested and charged with 8 felonies.
For his attempts to act as a “Dirty Santa” making drug deliveries this Christmas Season, he was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, trading with inmates, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of a schedule 2 controlled substance with the intent to distribute.
Norman is also being issued charges that include felony trafficking of methamphetamine for his affiliation with a previous attempted contraband drop that brings a close to an investigation from earlier in the year.
“The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Corrections remain committed to working together to prevent the delivery of illegal contraband at the Washington State Prison, ensuring the safety of both the community and the prison environment,” Sheriff Joel Cochran.
