Mr. Brookins was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the son of the late Carl Vinson Brookins Sr. and the late Dorothy Mae Brantley Brookins. Riding his bike to the Daitylane nearly every day, he was reared on South Harris Street in Sandersville across from the Washington County Stock Yard where he began working at the age of 14. C.V. graduated from Washington County High School, where he participated in sports and developed a love for horses – often seen riding them in parades. Mr. Brookins began his working career selling cars with his father-in-law, David Smith, Sr., before employment by Cypress Clay Company. He and his brother Ronald would then found Eagle Cleaning and Coating, a business that offered pressure washing and parking lot stripping. C.V. took these newfound business skills to form CVB Industrial Contracting that he would own and operate until his passing. Mr. Brookins loved the outdoors – hunting, fishing, and playing golf – and cherished time spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed socializing with others, often the center of attention and telling the best stories. C.V. was a well regarded community supporter and philanthropist whose generosity touched many lives as an active member of the Sandersville Rotary Club, where he was a distinguished Paul Harris Fellow, Major Donor, and Sandersville Rotarian of the Year. Mr. Brookins was a member of the Twin City Country Club and Georgia Mining Association – a past board member of Twin City and recipient of the Georgia Mining Association Member of the Year Award. Among his favorite pastimes were watching ‘ole western shows and movies again and again. C.V. will be fondly remembered for his devoted love, compassion, personality, and whit. Mr. Brookins is preceded in death by his siblings, Shelia Bridges, Ronald Brookins, and Mary Ellen Morris.
Survivors include his daughters, Courtney B. Tollison of Sandersville and Kirby B. Holmes and husband Lance of East Dublin; grandchildren, Natalie Tollison, Millie Kate Knowles, William James “Tripp” Tollison III, and Huck Holmes; sister, Faye Robson of St. Petersburg, Florida; and his love, Florence West Mixon-Brookins and her entire Mixon family.
